Canley Vale Nursing Home Visit

Saturday, October 20th 2007

We gathered in Canley Vale car park at 10:30am, expecting 15 singers on the day. At first, it didn’t appear that many would turn up. I guess the 10:30am start proved ‘a bit’ too early for the Friday night party-goers. Then, after a considerable number of attendants turned up, we walked across to the CV Nursing Home and met up with the other energetic singers already waiting there. We now have a Choir!

We entered the Nursing Home and went through to the dinning area where a large audience awaited us with anticipation.

Our first song was Stand By Me, and it needed just a ‘little’ fine-tuning. LOL… I think our vocal chords weren’t quite warmed up yet. The next song was You Are My Sunshine. We are now warmed up all right! That totally woke up the entire Nursing Home and lifted the team spirit. Other songs sung were, Amazing Grace, What a Wonderful World, Hokey Pokey and Gan Nhau. We were on a roll, so we decided to redeem ourselves and re-sang Stand By Me with a couple of the nurses joining the choir. This time around it was excellent and we ended on a high! Thanks to the guys for improvising the beat towards the end there.

Who could have forgotten one of the residents, the very enthusiastic Walter, screaming out for “more, more, more…one more!!” after each song. So we thought we would do one more, and proudly so, the Australian Anthem.

We ended the visit by handing out flowers to each of the residents and spent some time chatting with them.

After the Nursing Home visit we went to YUM CHA for lunch.

As some of you may know, this was my first experience with Thanh Nien to the Nursing Home - and it was FANTASTIC!

Thank you to ALL of the great singers who came on the day. Special mention to anh Sy our guitarist, and chi Phuong for organising this event.
