As the red curtain slowly opens for the last act of the Christmas Concert, thunderous laughter breaks out. The audience has spotted the seven angelic, “moustarchy” Swans in white. Forget about the hairy legs under their tights, the Swans dance gracefully to the soft beautiful Swan Lake symphony. They have certainly stolen the spotlight of the show…
On the Saturday of November 24th Thanh Nien CG partnered up with the Embrace group, from St Mary’s Cathedral, to perform the annual Christmas Concert at the Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home, Randwick. This was the second year Thanh Nien were involved in organising the Christmas Concert for the Nursing Home.
The concert was an exciting, vibrant compilation of dances, singing, intricate piano pieces, carols and a hilarious Nativity play.
After the concert, the Sisters couldn’t stop praising and thanking all the performers for the fantastic show. They also offered appetizing lamingtons and all sorts of tasty cakes that the boys couldn’t keep their eyes off. Everyone then headed outside the auditorium for some memorable poses. The Sisters were overly excited to have some pictures taken with our exclusive ‘Thanh Nien’s the-one-and-only-Swans’. Cha Liem couldn’t resist, when the perfect moment arrived, to jump onto the Swans for the infamous horizontal style pose. Then the rest of us teamed up with the Nativity cast to have snap after snap.
The success of this year’s Christmas concert could not have been achieved without week after week practicing at Thuc’s place. I really wished I could have made it to all of the practices. People certainly had so much fun and laughter in learning the steps and discovering “anh dep trai”…..Umm, I wonder how long he will be holding this title?
I have always loved watching musical shows and stage performances, so being part of the concert was extra great fun for me. Seeing the wide smiles on the retirees’ faces and hearing the deafening laughter of the Sisters had, no doubt, warmed my heart. I so look forward to joining Thanh Nien in many coming volunteer events.
This year Thanh Nien’s “the young and the restless” had definitely lit up the Christmas spirit, not just in the Nursing Home, but also in each person’s heart. Well done to the organizers and everyone for the tremendous effort, and Merry Christmas!
